Many people spend a lot of time and energy preparing for their future: Retirement plans, financial planning, investments, savings accounts, etc. This is smart. Many of us will live long past our retirement age, and it will be important to have the resources to spend time with our families, travel, and enjoy ourselves. But most people don't spend time investing in their health until a "screening test", health scare, sickness or pain brings it to their attention. What if we spent as much time … [Read more...]

Medical Assumptions

Thank God for medical care. If I get into a car crash and need surgery to remove a piece of glass from my abdomen, I am thrilled that we have the technology for that. But what if I have a cold? Or a digestive issue? Or a headache? I have experienced all these things. But do I need emergency care for them? Certainly not. Do I need medical care for them? Many would say yes. I say no. Here's why: Your body knows what to do -- trust it! If I eat something poisonous or spoiled... I could get … [Read more...]

Health is not LUCK

I was scanning through radio stations this morning on my way to work, and I came across some Gavin DeGraw on 105.9. The same station when I lived in Detroit played hip hop and R&B. The point is any given signal can produce different results depending on your location. Your body is the same way. Why do some people express symptoms for two weeks but others only for just a few days… or not at all… when exposed to the same virus? Why do some people develop allergies, cancers and … [Read more...]

Death Ponderings…

The news today is reporting the "shocking news" that 11 people have died from West Nile Virus so far this year. We are expected to be terrified of coming into contact with this awful illness..... Meanwhile, in 2010, over 80,000 people died from adverse reactions to pharmaceutical drugs. Looks like it's time to pay more attention to what we're putting into our bodies, and less time worrying about mosquitos. Plus, if you boost your immune system with regular chiropractic adjustments and awesome … [Read more...]

Diet Coke

It's been fun watching the world's greatest athletes compete in the Olympics so far this weekend. I love seeing what mankind is capable of when they truly push themselves. Commercials. Wow they frustrate me. Not because they interrupt the programming I'm watching, but because of the misleading information they propogate. Here is the scene: Watching swimming preliminary rounds. Commercial break. An assortment of glamorous, happy, sophisticated and successful people move across my tv screen. … [Read more...]

A Whisper

Most of you have probably heard the song by Neon Trees “Everybody Talks” on the radio by now. I like the line “It started with a whisper….” You can catch me belting it out in my car when the song comes on… usually when I’m by myself :). My high school literature teacher would probably be sad to know that I’m not entirely sure what this song is talking about. My initial thought is that he’s talking about rumors and how they often start with a whisper. Regardless, I got to … [Read more...]

Fun at the Color Run!

Color Run 2

Over Memorial Day weekend, Dr. Brian and I joined some friends in running at the Color Run in Denver. http://thecolorrun.com/gallery/ It starts with a typical 5K race. You wear as much white as possible. Then add in colored powder being tossed, swirled, and squirted at you 5 times throughout the race, and the result is a colorful, delightful mess. Running around and getting dirty without a care in the world -  I was in as soon as I heard about it :) It takes you back to those hot summer … [Read more...]

Processed Foods

brownies

Many times people ask me if it's ok to eat a little bit of something bad for them: A little bit of processed food, something with just a few chemical food additives, a few handfuls of candy made with high fructose corn syrup, a diet soda containing neuro-toxic aspartame only once in a while...... Picture the most delicious, warm, gooey brownie, straight from the oven, covered with chocolate sauce and served with cool vanilla ice cream. Sounds great right? Now what if I told you there was … [Read more...]
